Players of the Week

Taylor Jarvis

Sets on the Beach

Tonight player Taylor Jarvis did an incredible job with her underhand serves! As each game progressed, so did her serving skills. With determination and persistence Taylor even scored some key points for her team!

David Peeler

YOU SHALL NOT PASS

What's better than a competitive match? Answer: a competitive match that's fun AND oozes sportsmanship This week's matchup between YOU SHALL NOT PASS and Digs Out for Harambe was exciting and, perhaps, a preview of this season's championship headliners. Both teams were playing without their full squad and this allowed for players to step up and literally fill the gaps. David rose to the challenge and played the match of his life! The net was his zone and he owned it! It was easy to see that he was having fun AND enjoying the great effort from his opponent across the net. Underdog is all about social leagues and we LOVED seeing the high fives and jovial times that David initiated.

Rebekah Holman

Get it up!

Rebekah is this week’s player of the week for her positive attitude, exceptional energy, and big smile! After every point-scoring hit and serve Rebekah was there to high-five her teammate and cheer them on. She was the loudest on the court in the best possible way! Her energy helped her team come back from the first set to win the next two sets. Congrats Rebekah, keep it up!

Ben Nakamura

Roasty & Toasty

The temperature inside the gym at First Baptist Church wasn't the only thing toasty on Monday night for Underdog volleyball. Team Captain Ben was bringing the heat with countless off balance saves that kept all three games super exciting. What wasn't off balance? Ben's awesome attitude and leadership skills. He is a natural on the court and keeps his team's spirit high. Did I mention that Ben has captained over thirty Underdog teams over the years? That's pretty neat, just like Ben. Thanks Ben for being an awesome part of Underdog!

Rohan Pavone

Scott's Tots

Rohan is this week’s player of the week for his hustle and defense. He was ready for every ball and he often ran from middle back to the front row to dive for short tips over the net. He had a couple pancakes and one armed saves during the night. Great job Rohan and good luck this season!

Gianna Passarelli

Setters of Catan

The 8:30pm match was incredible to watch! Ya'll should just post up and hang out after or arrive early to your match because you are missing incredible volleyball! Setters of Catan and YOU SHALL NOT PASS had some amazing rallies that took ages to end. "that was only 2 points?!". Yup. These teams got their workouts last night. Lots of players stood out and could have been player of the week... but Gianna, wrist taped and all, just seemed like the x-factor for Setters of Catan. Gianna wasn't the biggest block up there and we all know who made the most jaw-dropping kills... but Gianna was a part of those plays! With a sense for perfect positioning and a ready platform, Gianna just kept those rallies going (and stopped her opponents from getting their hopes too far up). Let's celebrate fundamentals and court sense - congrats Gianna!

Drew Okenfuss

That's What She Set

This week we have 2 players of the week- Drew Okenfuss and Laura Kempfer. Drew is player of the week for his big blocks and spikes in his match against the Volley Llamas. At one point in the match Drew was set a slide. He hustled to get to right front and proceeded to slam the ball almost on the ten foot line. Our second player of the week is Laura Kempfer because she played 2 matches in one night! She is on the Incredibles but she graciously stuck around to play another match when Drew's team was missing a player! With Laura's perfect passing and Drew's knock-out hits That's What She Set had an awesome second game of the season!

Nico McGuire

Spike Tyson - Indy #V48

Nico is one heck of a team player! Not only did she help her team secure a win last night... but when the opportunity to help Claws Out avoid a forfeit arose, Nico put her shoes back on, delayed any post-match snack ideas, and hit the court for the late night match. We love seeing players step up and say "yes" when it comes to helping out and meeting new people. Pretty sure that Nico just found some new future teammates!

Shannon Wheeler

Aceholes

Tonight team captain, Shannon, pushed her team Aceholes to do their absolute best at the 6:30 game on Tuesday! Her hustle and skill definitely inspired her teammates to do just as well as her! From her skillful sets to tricky dumps Shannon helped her team to do great tonight!

Kimberly Rodriguez

SERV-IVORS

Kim lit up the court tonight with her positivity and team spirit! Always encouraging her teammates and pushing them to play their very best! Kim embodies what it means to be a team player - all while blaming a great game herself! Way to bring it Kim! You rock!
