Players of the Week

Alicia Hammer

Floppy Balls

Hammer is definitely a fitting last name for Alicia of Floppy Balls! Thursday night at First Baptist, she was hammering her serves into the opponent's side of the court.

Gabby Ivy

Balls In!

Look no further, the debate between waffles and pancakes has been settled. Pancakes take the cake (ha). And you would agree with me if you saw Gabby lay her body, soul, and life down on the floor to pick up the sneakiness tip I ever did see. As she soared through the air, and slide on the hardwood, I saw the determination in her eye. It paid off, because she perfectly executived the elusive pancake dig. One things for sure, everyone in the gym walked out craving some IHOP.

Carly Tsutakawa

Digs Out for Harambe

On occasion, sports offer a platform for an athlete to transcend the competition and the game played. Such was the case when Carly Tsutakawa of Digs Out for Harambe put on a virtuoso performance. Routinely, Digs Out for Harambe turned to Carly when they desperately needed a play. Time and time again, Carly answered the call, able to perform in any position necessary. Faced with the heat of the gym and the heat of the plays by Carly, Digs Out for Harambe’s opponents were burned out. For her standard of excellence, Carly is our player of the week. Congratulations!

Chao Lai

Believe in your Selfie

On occasion, sports offer a platform for an athlete to transcend the competition and the game played. Such was the case when Chao Lai of Believe in your Selfie put on a virtuoso performance. Routinely, Believe in your Selfie turned to Chao when they desperately needed a kill. Time and time again, Chao answered the call, hitting the ball viciously down the other side of the net. No one could dig his straight-down hits! For his standard of excellence, Chao is our player of the week. Congratulations!

Scott Douglass

Ball So Hard

This past Thursday at First Baptist, Scott Douglass of Ball So Hard came up clutch when his team needed him most. Ball So Hard won their first game and needed to win the second to become the champions. During the second game between the two teams, Ball So Hard and their opponents were at the point where a win-by-2 was needed to secure the win for that game. Undeterred, Scott rose to the occasion, proceeding to attack and block at the net as if it were the last time he’d ever play volleyball. With his awesome plays up front, Ball So Hard was able to come up for a 27-25 win in the second game, securing their title as “champs”. For displaying an immeasurable amount of grit, Scott is our Player of the Week. Congratulations!

Mara Yatsik

Digs Out for Harambe

Mara is a total beast on the court! Her kills are strong fast and fiery! This week in Wallingford she won point after point for her team with crazy accurate swings and serves! She played like a pro, thanks Mara for playing volleyball with Underdog, and congratulations, you're Player of the Week!

Anthony Van Eaton

Back That Ace Up

Some people just "have it" when it comes to sports - Anthony Van Eaton is one of those people. His team, Back That Ace Up, knew they could rely on him to be there wherever and whenever they needed him the most. In addition to possessing amazing skills on the court, his sportsmanship off the court is just as noteworthy. He is truly a volleyball natural. For his all around greatness, Anthony is our player of the week. Congratulations!

Roderick H LEI-SAM

Floppy Balls

Hit after sensational hit, Roderick of Floppy Balls left everyone in attendance in a state of awe. With his missile-like kills crushing the court, he was absolutely on fire. Roderick's performance was definitely something to behold. Ultimately, his energy on the court along with his solid skill set aided his team to success. Congratulations Roderick!

Alexandra Ndegwa

Digs Out for Harambe

Alexandra is always a strong and consistent player on Digs Out for Harambe, but this week she was much more than just a strong player, she played like a star and she was also the birthday girl! Thanks Alex for playing with Underdog on your special day! Congrats, you're player of the week!

Alexander Voo

Squirrels

Watching Squirrels play tonight was great fun! Incredible vollies and some amazing saves. Alex's endurance and net play definitely were major factors to Squirrels' round one victory. During the second match up of the night,  Squirrels hit a wall... well 2 human walls. Alex never gave up! Despite dropping the first two games - Alex was diving,  jumping, and running in the third. Playing to the very end is the Underdog way!
