Jim Class Heroez- Indy #1, Kickin' Dong, Off in the Woods, The Kiddie Kickers
POTW: Greg Tontini
Softball was too hard
Greg Tontini made his presence felt on the first day of Summer rookie kickball in Ballard. Greg was a little hobbled by a bum leg, but turned in great plays on defense and big kicks on offense to help his team squeak out a close victory, in an exciting opening day game. Above all, Greg's attitude was great, as he and really both teams just seemed to be happy to be outside and having fun on a great day. Ahhhh, sumnmer...

POTW: Sonja Hoven
Off in the Woods
This game had it all: diving catches, a leadoff in-the-park homerun, an enforced infield fly rule, pitcher encroachment, a cool unassisted double play at first, and a kill-shot at home plate.
What it didn't have was a lot of scoring. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Sonja scored the winning run on a mishandled pop-up in shallow right field. Because there was only one out, she had to wait until the ball was dropped before running home, which made it a fairly close play.

POTW: Garrick Pickett
Indy #1
Garrick Pickett refused to walk. He also refused to quit. Down big late in the game and with a pulled leg muscle Garrick was determined to finish strong and get his kick in. After resetting the count on a third ball, he booted a blast deep into left and came into second standing up, scoring a run in the process. After a few more kickers, Garrick managed to make it all the way home. His team didn't get the win, but Garrick showed some true grit out there.

POTW: Chris Adams
The Kiddie Kickers
We already knew Chris Adams had some defensive game. Chris seems to be everywhere at once on the field and involved in every play. This week, he backed it up on offense, though, kicking a grand slam late in the game in order to seal the first victory for the Kiddie Kickers.

POTW: Dave Stalsbroten
Footballers 2
This week in the Ballard Boys and Girls Club Monday/Wednesday league Dave Stalsbroten of Footballers 2 did his best Ichiro impression in the Footballers victory over Wes Tide Funamis. Dave was on fire in the 90+ degree weather with a triple and an in the park homerun. Dave's solid at-bats and deceptively speedy baserunning helped the Footballers charge to victory.

POTW: Gavyn Walker
Off in the Woods
Gavyn Walker celebrated his birthday in style at his kickball game. HE made some diving catches in the outfield to keep his team in the game until extra innings. Happy Birthday, Gavyn!
Softball was too hard forfeited to The Kiddie Kickers.

POTW: Farzad Darovian
The Kiddie Kickers
While a member of the Kiddie Kickers, Farzad actually agreed to play on the opposing team, Softball was too hard, so they would have enough players for a full game. His fellow Kiddie Kickers were not happy with this arrangement- and with good reason, since Farzad proceeded to dominate the game, both on offense and defense. He actually helped Softball was too Hard to a win over his own team. At the end, however, the teams decided, given the unexpected edge, to call the game a tie.

POTW: Charles Cutter, AKA "Fluffy"
I Smell Burning
Charles, or fondly called "Fluffy" by his teammates, shows true dedication to the sport of kickball when on the pitching mound. Fluffy never pitches a ball half-heartedly or too quickly- he always takes his time, checks the wind, and sends a straight slow-roller right down the middle of the plate. Fluffy led hi team to victory this past week.
And the name "Fluffy"???? Well, that remains a mystery to the umpire. You have to ask his team.

POTW: Jessica Drenkel
The Kiddie Kickers
This Wednesday at the Summer Co-Ed Rookie Kickball at Ballard Boys and Girls Club league Jessica Drenkel kept The Kiddie Kickers in the game against Off in the Woods with stellar defense and team spirit. Jessica had 4 outs playing left field, each of which required extra effort in the form of outstretched hands or a full-speed sprint. Her speed and spirit were exemplified and perhaps increased by the lightning bolt painted on her face as well. To add to the stats, she went 4 for 4 on offense too. Good work Jessica!
