New Kicks on the Block

"New Kicks" prevails through the downpour, wins 2 high scoring games

What a night it was in Magnuson Park on Tuesday night. New Kicks on the Block came in knowing they were playing on one of the only Turf kickball fields in Seattle, which meant there wouldn't be any rainouts and they were gonna get wet. They scored 2+ runs in all 7 innings of their first game, with a combination of awesome defense (shortstop bumped a screaming line drive up to the left fielder, who made a diving play!), clutch timely kicking and hilarious defensive miscues by the other team (left fielder accidentally kicking a ball into the right field corner- huh?), and used the same offensive firepower to outlast a furious comeback in the second game. With scores like 19-13 and 17-11, it was quite a night. Congrats everyone, and good luck in the playoffs!

Erica Bechtel

New Kicks on the Block

Erica was the epitome of a player that plays through the final whistle. Finding her team trailing by 12 runs at one point in the game, Erica led her undermanned team to an ultimate comeback. With only seven players on the field, her opponent quickly took advantage of the many holes created by not having a full compliment of players to man/woman the diamond. But the deficit never deterred Erica as she calmly pitched what turned out to be a gem of a game. Making defensive play after defensive play, she quietly began to shut down the opposing offense as the game wore on. Not only did she pitch a masterful game, she also sparked a 7 run 5th inning as her team began to chip away at the lead which ended in a walk off RBI single to complete the comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning.
