Summer Softcore Kickball at Ballard Boys & Girls Club T/TH

Greg played his first 2 games of Underdog kickball this week, and he did it with style. Greg made some awesome catches on defense as well as being a huge contributor to his team on offense with his line drive kicks. All in a pair of low-top Converse All Stars. Great games Greg.

Grace is a player guys (not in that way)! Grace has style when she's up to bat. Grace kicked the ball sucessfully every time at bat and you could tell she was up to bat because all we heard from the cheering section was, 'come on Pink! You can do it!' Those pink shoes carefully placed the bunts down the line and she ran her heart out to first everytime. She scored a couple of runs and was an inspiration to her teammates Great job Grace.

Today there were some honorable mentions as welll, Nichole Chastain from Ballers (again) was perfect on the night and had some great catches out in the field. Ethan Thompson brought team spirit and great enthusiasm to the field. Kate from Kate and friends was gracious enough to sub in our first game and managed to rally her teammates and made their game competitive. Great job everyone!

We hope to see some more great players out there next week. Thank you to all as it was a joy to umpire and be part of a great night!

John had amazing ability today in the outfield! Pure solid awesomeness. and John is no ball hog, he had some nice assists to make the outs at 2nd. to top it off, he had an RBI

The ENTIRE game, was sooo incredibly close. It came down to the final minutes at the bottom of the 7th when Matt got on base. And to break the tie, he ran for his life and slid home for the win! Awesome.

Fortune favors the bold, but it punishes the reckless. Today, fortune would act through the arm of Mindy Terence. Mindy was playing 3rd base when a speedy and ambitious runner kicked a long ball to right field, arriving at 3rd safely. This nameless runner then flew too close to the sun. Mindy pretended to not pay attention, and she turned her back to the runner. He then darted along the base path to home plate, but woe to the one who tests Mindy! She fired off a canon of a throw that split the runner in two both physically and spiritually. He let out a howl of anguish and despair, cursing his befouled judgment. As he somehow managed to crawl back to the dugout, the runner, though alone, resembled the great Hector of Troy, dragged bloody and dead through the streets of his home city as he succumbed to fate that he could not fight.

Piedad Martinez provided a little bit of everything for Just For Kicks in their Tuesday night victory, including offense, defense, and excellent enthusiasm. Martinez took the mound and stifled the opposing offense with incredible pitching, reached base multiple times in her at-bats, and even came through with a few clutch defensive plays. On one play, Martinez even kicked the ball from the pitchers mound and hit the opposing baserunner just in time to get the out. Overall, it was an excellent night for Piedad Martinez, which earns her Player of the Week.

Paul Staiger invokes a certain nostalgia in the heart of any observer that reminds one of a time when kickball was played with class and dignity. Paul is not a player but rather a fan who pours his all into each play and inspires his team. It can safely be said that Paul was responsible for 10 of his beloved Cobra Kai's 17 runs due to his hearty clapping and carefully-timed taunting of the opposition with a "Hey batter, batter, batter!" So faithful and devoted is Paul that he insisted on watching his daughter play in Cobra Kai's play off game on his birthday. What did this humble man with crutches say after the game about his legendary status? "Well, I was thinking naughty thoughts about all the girls out there the whole time." I applaud Paul for his truly outstanding support and for having his mind exactly in the right place.
