Spring Softcore Kickball at Denny Park Tues/Thurs

What an amazing catch! Playing the catcher position is usually a grinding position, fielding all of the bunts and having to deal standing side by side with an umpire for 7 innings, but Brian put on a special performance on Thursday, helping his team win the first game of the season. Brian showed his skills diving way to the left and tumbling to make a fantastic catch on a foul popup that he probably didn't need to catch (there was already one strike on the kicker), but nevertheless Brian felt like owning it, and own it he did! Congrats Brian and the SLU Crew!

Jasmine T earns this week's Player of the Week award for that dazzling smile and great attitude. Oh did I mention she also made an amazing diving catch and managed to trip over herself while kicking a foul ball? Jasmine did it all on Tuesday night, and she did it with a great smile on her face. Congrats Jasmine!

SLU Crew pulled out a hard fought victory on Tuesday, winning 11-9. In game that saw several lead changes, Matt Laughlin scored twice, including the go ahead run late in the game. While the offense came from all over the field for SLU, Matt lead the way.

Jessica S earns this week's Player of the Week award for her outstanding job pitching in the doubleheader and threw some awesome defensive plays as well. She held the opposing team to 4 runs in the first game, and finished it off with a great diving catch. Second game was a little tougher, as she allowed 8 but her team had a rally in the last inning to close the gap to 1, but they couldn't prevail. Always with a smile on her face, Jessica perfectly exemplifies what a true Underdog is!

I remember thinking to myself after a couple of at bats, it usually only takes Ryan one at bat (This time it took two) to warm up before he starts striking fear into the opponents and ball itself with his missile shots... But boy did Ryan, affectionately called by his team mates "Freshman" heat up in a hurry after two un-eventful pop ups. To tie the game, Freshman belted a two run HR to DEEP left center. But not to be outdone by his tying heroics, Ryan found himself at the plate with the score tied and one on in the bottom of the 7th... Um, no need to say anything else... Well... Ok... Ryan blasted the ball over the right field wired monster for a game winning walk-off 2 run home run. Though finding themselves winning easily in the Championship game, Ryan was still up to his belting/blasting ways!
