Winter Co-ed Softball on Capitol Hill Sundays

If you wanted to receive a lesson in never giving up I would have to point you to the team known as the Alcoballics. They can tell you all about it. Sunday's game against the Mean Muggers wasn't going well early on and didn't go well for most of the game for their team. At one point they found themselves down five runs and the wheels were starting to fall off but they did not relent. They continued to hit the ball and hustle their tails off and when it was all said and done they tied the game going into the top of the seventh inning. After holding Mean Muggers to no runs in the bottom of the seventh they used that momentum heading into extra innings. In the top half of the eighth Alcoballics managed to get across two early runs to pad their lead going into the bottom of the eighth and then it happened. With the bases juiced and only one out into the box steps Kyle. On the second pitch he sees he rips a laser shot through the gap in right center and the bases are cleaned. In the bottom half of the eighth inning the Mean Muggers could only muster four runs before Alcoballics closed the door. Game over, good night and we will see you next Sunday.

Sunday's game between Mean Muggers and the Salty Dogs was one of the best softball games I have ever been a part of that included and Indy Team. Their team hitting, base running, fielding and spirit has them running on all cylinders and they will be a force come playoff time. Great job to the Salty Dogs and look forward to seeing you guys in action next Sunday.

The Rainbow Hipsters have finally gotten over the hump and have finally lost their "0" win designation. Sparked by Ives Hot and her hot bat the Rainbow Hipsters get by the Mean Muggers 11 to 6. The Hipsters got themselves fired up before the game and vowed to play their butts off and have fun. Well they did and the result was a beautifully played game. The fourth inning made the difference in the game for the Hipsters as they grabbed four insurance runs and held Mean Muggers to two runs over the next three innings. Great win for the Rainbow Hipsters and great game for Ives!!

Led by Andrew Green and Rachael Fleischmann the fifth seeded Tots showed up on Sunday not thinking about seeding, but about victory and winning a coveted USL league title. It was obvious from the start that they were on a mission as they knocked off the number four seeded Salty Dogs 12 to 4. This was just the start. Next up they faced off against power house and number one seeded Good In Every Position. Already warm from the first game and with their bats still hot, they pummeled GEIP 15 to 3 behind the defense of Rachel Fleischmann, the pitching of Andrew Green and the all out hustle and effort from every team member. It was an absolute beautiful thing to witness softball being played at its finest and my hat goes off to any Indy team who can piece together a team and compete for a championship their first season together. Although the Tots came up short in the championship against number three seeded Balco Bombers they proved once again that there is no substitute for heart. Either you want it or you don't and they played all day long like they wanted it. It's fun watching them play and I have a feeling that they will be back next season and will again be playing for a league title. Great season Tots!!
