Cahones Goes Back To Basics for First Championship
Kick Me In The Jimmy Left Feeling Sore In All The Wrong Places

It's always great to see two teams with completely different styles match up so well in a championship game.
Cahones- a young, yet experienced group of UK vets. After a handful of seasons in UK, they learned the fundamentals of Kickball- sound fielding, and aggressive base running. With a small line-up they've learned to limit their weaknesses and maximize their strengths in these areas.
Kick Me In the Jimmy- despite being new to midcore, the Jimmy has been around the block. After making some big noise in their rookie season, they were ready to make their presence felt at the Midcore level. With some players that could clear the bases twice on a single kick, and a few more that can throw a bunter out at first from third, they were indeed a serious threat.
Kick Me In The Jimmy showed their power early, jumping ahead on the strength of their cleanup kicker, the golden-legged Chris. On defense, it was the "Prime Time" play of Deion at first that kept their lead. But Cahones were knew they could stay in it, and that the Jimmy had to beat them all seven innings in order to take that title. The tide turned during the fifth as Joe Ferrara showed his leadership with some aggressive base-running and huge RBIs. By the top of the seventh, Cahones had taken the lead 4 - 3 and were just three outs away from their first championship. Things were tense with a runner on first with no outs, but the game ended on an unassisted double play and a new champ was crowned.
Congratulations to Cahones on their first Championship in Underdog Kickball!

Supercalifornia Pants Champs Once Again
Pink Seagulls Play A Tight One in Their Hardcore Debut

Some people love the Yankees. Some people hate the Yankees. But no one is indifferent to the Yankees, and regardless of your feelings towards them, few can deny the power of their franchise, and that yes, they'll be there at the end every year.
Underdog Kickball has had it's own version of the Bronx Bombers for a while now- the trash talking- in your face- feared yet respected- Supercalifornia Pants. Supercali has had a stranglehold on the hardcore division for years. After a bump in the road of losing last season's championship to See You At Recess Bitches, they avenged their loss by beating the Bitches and taking the title at the recent Red Rubber Showdown.
However, Pants found themselves in an unusual spot this time around- the #2 seed behind the upstart Pink Seagulls. The Gulls were mere babes when they played their first season at Ballard Boys and Girls Club last year, but after a few seasons of dominating mid-core play, they decided to step up and take a crack at hardcore. Playing for a championship in their first season is indeed a nice crack.
As expected, the kicks were booming and the defense was tight. Supercali jumped out early, but some miscommunication on the field and a few well placed kicks had the Gulls right back in it, and we were tied at 2 at the beginning of six. In the end, experience won out, as Supercali was able to put one more run up, and keep the Gulls off the base paths to seal it 3 - 2. But it was clear that the Gulls had played them tough, and would be back again.
Congratulations to both teams on a great championship.
