XXX fought their way to another title, using the arms of Brian Welsh and Brenda Solesmass and the hands of Victoria Templora and Ryan Kelso, beating Haywire 36-14.
XXX managed to hold off 3rd and Shlong in the semi final game, 34-22. The key player in the semi was Cody "coco" Cooke who caught 2 TD passes and a number of "phantom catches". He also provided some much needed defense at crucial times. In the other semi final, Haywire erased a 16 point deficit with the help of PIck 6's on consecutive possessions. And then made a goal line stand to preserve the victory and a berth in the championship.
In the title game, XXX looked to be the more rested and experienced team, winning 36-14. They built a half time lead of 22-6 on the strength of TD passes from Solesmass and Welsh. Solesmass to Welsh and Templora, Welsh's to Templora. Haywire could never recover, as their high powered offense was stymied for the remainder of the game.. In the 2nd half Welsh hit Ryan Kelso for a TD and added a running touchdown, putting the game out of reach. Kelso made a number of key catches in the 2nd half in addition to his TD grab. The XXX defense also was tough, barely surrendering a 1st down unitl late in the game.
It was an excellent season for both squads, and their march through the playoffs was impressive. But in the end, the experience of XXX won the day and the championship.
