Strong starts and rough finishes were the theme of the day on Championship Sunday in Ballard. Like their midcore counterparts the Habitual Offenders, the rookie New Kicks On the Block started their day with a convincing win over their semi-final opponent Cryptorchids. The game was close early, but the New Kicks pulled away late and won it 6 - 4.
Perhaps it was fatigue or the torrential downpour that had begun early on, but either way, NKOTB could not match their earlier intensity to match up with a fresh Bruisers team. Although a heated and competitive matchup, The New Kicks just couldn't make up ground on the Bruisers and eventually lost by a lopsided score of 13 - 3. You'll get 'em next year, rookies!
Congratulations to the Bruisers on their upset and Championship!
The Bruisers were on their game Sunday, determined to win their first championship. Of note, though, was their shortstop, Hallie, who showed some great fielding in clutch situations, including a rocket throw from third to 1st on a grounder to just get a runner out. Save it for the bigs, Hallie, this is Rookie League!
Wow, is the first word to describe Rose's innaugural kickball performance. She looked like no rookie in the infield darting to lazy popups, finger-tip catches, reeling in bobbles, & precise decision making.
On offense, she frustrated her opponents with pinpoint kicking and quick baserunning.
Rose, you are the POTW!
