First Place

Winter Big Turkey Bowling at Sunset Thursdays 9:30

In sports history, there are few teams who can claim a truly undefeated season. There's the '72 Miami Dolphins, and er... well, that's it really. That is, until last night, when Thursday Night Lights was added to that short illustrious list. Yes ladies and gentlemen, this BTB Thursday night team went the entire season without giving up ONE point to another team. Not a single ONE! And while the record speaks quite clearly to their dominance, it was by no means an easy road.

First, let's go back two weeks to when the Thursday Nighters faced off against the league No. 2 Minds In The Gutter in what many thought would be a preview of the championship. Thursday Night pulled that one out after a hard fought battle, and Minds was left stinging and hankering for revenge.

Cut to the playoffs last night, with both teams making quick work of their first round opponents- The Bowling Stones and Indy #1 respectively. Not to downplay the efforts of these opponents- both teams stepped up their games to a much higher level, but the two teams were just too good, and no one could deny the rematch of destiny that was brewing.

The championship was everything one could hope for. The pin count (see: match lead) switched hands on almost a frame by frame basis. Would Minds in The Gutter avenge their loss and prove they were the true deserving Champions? Would Thursday Night Lights ( in keeping with their football inspiration) pull a '06 Indianapolis Colts like meltdown and have their impecable regular season record be all for naught? It certainly looked that way at points. However, at several times during the championship game, when things seemed like they would slip away, the team huddled (seriously) and began their warcry of "Thursday Night Lights!" to pump themselves back up. And that was all she wrote folks. In the tenth, while Minds was fading, the Thursdayers were only getting stronger, with team Captian Travis Millberger putting an exclamation point on the night and the season, finishing with six consecutive strikes. History was made, and Thursday Night Lights were crowned Champs.

In the other match, the Indy team played like a true team and made the BTB world take notice with their solid win over The Bowling Stones and their third place finish.

Congratulations to the Winter '07 UNDEFEATED Big Turky Bowling Champs, Thursday Night Lights!

POTW: Troy Brock

Thursday Night Lights

Troy Brock may be an unlikely POTW candidate. Both his teammates Evan and Troy won it during the regular season, and with those two on his team Troy's scores often didn't make the cut, including last night. However, that's NOT what matters here. What matters is that Troy was his team's leadoff bowler, and in the the playoffs and championship when it mattered most, Troy stepped, and led the charge with his best games ever. His first two Turkeys of the whole season came in the Championship game, and while Travis and Evan still put up the big numbers, Troy was the leader last night. Besides, when you put up a 152 and you're still the third best bowler on your team, you're in pretty good shape. Congratualtions to Troy and the champs, Thursday Night Lights.

POTW: Evan Jones

Thursday Night Lights

In a matchup of the two hottest teams going into the playoffs, we saw Thursday Night Lights take on Minds In The Gutter in a possible championship preview. In the end, it was Evan Jones and Thursday Night Lights who were determined to send the message that they ARE the team to beat this season. Evan started hot and never looked back, with a 224 in game one and a 190 to close out the night. Mines In The Gutter will have to step it up if they're going to take the title in a rematch. We'll see how it plays out...

POTW: Travis Milberger

Thursday Night Lights

The hopes and dreams of a small Seattle town were pinned on the arm of Travis Milberger of Thursday Night Lights on opening night. Could they go to the state championship? Would he get that bowling scholarship that was his only ticket out of small town obscurity? Well, who knows about all that. Travis DID manage to bowl games of 169 and 227, earning him POTW honors. Maybe it was that speech we gave him at halftime.
