It began slowly as teams trickled in at the last minute for the championships. Unusual Spare faced off against Oh Split! who was definitely there to play (not to mention fully decked out in Western wear). Unusual Spare was determined not to be distracted by the bowling cow and with the help of Don's 198 pulled out a 581 against Oh Split's 552 to secure their spot to bowl for the title.
Pushing aside any potential fear from the "I Can't Believe it's not Gutter shoe throwing incident" from the week before, Wade, Don and Emily started off strong, each with a strike in the first frame. Fifteen additional strikes later, they joined the many great teams before them as Underdog champs. I Can't Believe it's not Gutter put up a great fight even with only 4 bowlers. Woo woo!
It was really a team effort on the road to the championship and no one person gets the credit. Everyone bowled consistently well and contributed to the overall team success. While the enthusiasm as it pertained to theme nights was slightly sub par, what really mattered were the scores. And score they all did. Nice work Unusual Spare. Nice work.
It was an ordinary Sunday afternoon in an ordinary bowling lane when something extraordinary was about to happen. Well, pretty good anyway. Don bowled an almost capped but no cigar 201 in the first game and a 176 in the second game securing Unusual Spare's already secured #1 spot as they head into next week's play-offs. Get 'er Don!
Jimmy is a fighter. He is also a dedicated bowler. Saturday was his birthday and the obvious choice for celebration? Using the free coupons to go practice up on his bowling game at Sunset. It turned into a big night out for Jimmy and he was able to battle through a hangover and the shame of not breaking 100 the night before to come back on Sunday with a 141 followed up by a 214 (we'll call it a 205). It was a special accomplishment for him. Happy birthday, Jimmy!
