Heading into the final night of the season, No F in Strikes looked like the clear team to beat. And after their semi-final win against Mines in the Gutter, that was certainly looking to be the case.
Meanwhile, The Pickup Artists, behind a virtuoso performance by Amy Poppe-and a controversial spare late in the game-won a squeaker over TBD. Poppe's nine spares and game high 161 would lead her team into the final against the powerhouse Strikes. However, in the final game, it was the Artists who emerged victorious. Congrats to the champions!
Needing a clutch performance to reach the final, Amy dug deep and led her team to the final, and eventually the championship. Amy rolled up nine spares in ten frames to post a game-high and personal-best 161 in Game 1.
Special mention goes to Matt Ballew and his team "Your Mom Likes to Bowl". Matt rolled a personal-best 248 in the special nine-pin exhibition, and his team racked up TWO straight Big Turkeys. That's ten straight strikes, folks, in case you were counting.
The regular members of The Pickup Artists were missing on Wednesday. Fortunately, the Blues Brothers, Pat, The Ladies Man, Mary Katherine Gallagher, Linda Richtman, and Tina Fey all showed up to bowl in their place. Jake (or maybe Elwood, they all look alike to me) led this team of classic SNL characters to a win their non-costumed, but happily drunk foes.
