Notes

First Place

Spring Co-ed Softball at Paramount Sundays

It looked like an impossible task for the Dashing Turtles, a day of three games to make it into the Championship game. It started early for the Dashing turtles in a 2:00 game that pitted them against the talented Master Blasters. However a blistering 4th inning which included 7 runs put them on top to stay. It wasn't all easy as Master Blasters made it close in the 5th and 6th inning with some timely rallies. But with players like Emily Norland catching virtually everything hit to right field and adding a blast over the left fielders head the turtles were in good hands. The Turtles hung on and proceeded to win 13-8 and advance to the 3:30 game.
The 3:30 game pitted a heavily favored Here for the Beer team against a tired Dashing turtles squad. However the Turtles were out to show they were not intimidated and with great plays by Kim Dodd in left field held the favorite Here for the Beer scoreless through 3 innings. Dodd not only brought her glove to the game...she also decided to bring a hot bat to the game with some awesome hits leading the turtles into the championship game with a statement win to all other teams 24-5.
The question remained...could the turtles still have enough in the gas tank to beat a solid KBs crew in the Championship game? Most teams would be happy with just getting to the Championship game...but would the Turtles rest on their laurels and settle with 2nd? Right out of the gate the Turtles dashed to an 8-1 lead in the first. They played tough, they played fast, and most of all they played with determination. Led by head coach Rob and the mastermind behind this squad the Turtles would not quit. KBS crew would not give it away easy. However with play from the "Doctor" Emily Norland she was able to diagnose and prescribe a heavy dose of offense against the stubborn KBs Crew. With Timely hitting and awesome defense and pitching the Turtles had enough in the Tank to prevail winning the Championship 24-16!
The Turtles improbable march to the Championship reminds one of the story of the turtle and the hare. The Turtles were steady and constant with their cast of key players. They outlasted all teams in a long race to the Championship game. Congratulations Dashing Turtles on you hard fought Championship Victory!!!

One must not forget KBs Crew who started the day with an extra inning thriller to prevail over Twist 10-9. Dave Miles was masterful on the mound and played through injuries that would lead most to call it a day. The Crew also managed to take home another thriller against Park Pub 21-20 with the help of the "big man" Keith Smith making diving plays and hitting monster shots to ensure the one run victory in this hard fought battle.

Twist Restaurant and Lounge had an awesome season but ended with a painful loss to KB's Crew 10-9 in extra innings. But bottom line Twist was a team that showed up to play every week and were a gracious and awesome team week in and week out.

Master Blasters suffered an early out in the Playoffs but enough cannot be said for this team. During the Season when other teams needed help they were there to "play another game." Awesome attitude and solid competitive games were the trademark of the this teams. Bottom line the league would not have been half as fun without these great guys and gals...and I have a feeling they will be back with a vengence.

Here for the Beer took and early out in the Playoffs without their leader (congrats on the Wedding). But this team was solid throughout the season earning a number 2 seed in the playoffs. Tons of talent on this team and awesome people who can play on the field and BBQ with the best of em. This team is always ready to play so fair warning to future teams who play Here for the Beer...watch out!

Park Pub with their signature Cow Bell and awesome fans lost a close game to KBS crew. Matt took one to the nose and still had the grit to come out and pitch an awesome game. This team has all the talent and coaching needed for a run at the Championship. Trust me this team will be back!

I have to truly say I looked forward to Sunday's and umping this league. We were blessed with talented fun teams who were competitive and had a blast doing it. I had more laughs and fun then I ever expected. All teams were gracious in victory and defeat. Truly this league this Spring was what softball and fellowship are about. I cannot thank all teams enough...I made some good friends and had a too many good times to count. And I hope to see you all again soon!!! Thank you soooo much.

POTW: Robert DesRosiers

Dashing Turtles

The mastermind and coach of the Dashing Turtles improbable march to victory. He held steady and when the turtles were down managed to make all the right moves and encourage his team to keep on fighting. This coach didn't just sit and cheer though he ensured his team would secure victory by timely hitting, and awesome defensive play. He assembled a true "team" wherein all pieces fit perfectly and contributed at all the right times. Congrats Rob you were constantly positive and a leading example for a team that truly played as a team. Congrats Champ and POTW!
