Summer Co-ed Softball at Interbay/Lower Woodlands Saturdays

Before the game Lou De La Garza was sure to ask the umpire how many home runs could be hit over the fence before it counted as an out (a classic Underdog rule at Lower Woodlands). Little did anyone know that he would threaten the three home run barrier all by himself. Lou blasted two home runs (one of which nearly went into the skate park), along with seven RBIs, leading the Masterbatters to a 18-8 Opening Day victory.

In a thriller of a contest that waged unstoppable force against immovable object, a hero emerged to lead the Axis of Awesome to dazzling comeback splendor. Down 12-10 in the top of th 6th with 2 ducks on the pond, Steve saved a looping flyball into shallow right with an inspired dive...from shortstop! Ozzie Smith, former gold-glove ss on hand for the game, remarked that it was a "good play". Further superlatives may have been restrained with Ozzie concerned about handing over his Wizard title to the new kid on the block. The "Play at Interbay", as local media dubbed it, set the stage for a walk-off, bottom of the 7th 13-12 victory in what ESPN made an instant classic. Two of those key runs were batted in by our Player of the Week on 2-3 at the plate. The victory was celebrated with the taking of Bacchian libations.

This weeks player of the week goes to Dave Michalowski for his great plays in the field. It was his bat that made the difference in a three run game and earned him player of the week. In a close game, Dave got the troops going with a large home-run and eventually the difference in the game giving his team a win. Great job Dave!
