Summer Co-ed Softball at Queen Anne/Interbay Tues/Thurs

Chris was a large and imposing force out on the field for the Marinators. Even though the Smack My Pitch Up pitchers tried to pitch around him, he was able to make enough contact to hit for the cycle Thursday night.

On a crazy night in which balls were flying everywhere, every which way, one man was clearly prepared for anything. Standing on the pitching mound, Jason Lightfoot knew the danger when he decided to take up the task of trying to shut down the Wyld Stallyns. His last name definitely described his abilities late in the game as a batted ball was headed straight for an area that generally requires protective equipment. Unfazed, Jason quickly shifted sideways and got out of harms way, then decided he had enough time to catch a ball that was seemingly going 100 MPH. It was definitely the play of the week, hence the honor of Player of the Week being bestowed upon Mr. Lightfoot.

Robert Half was able to muster up a whole victory on Thursday night thanks in large part to Wilson Wang. Wilson has a knack for being able to hit the ball to all parts of the field, and it came in handy on Thursday as he was able to strategically place all three of his hits in right field, away from the two stellar outfielders of the Skoal Bandits. His three hits, including two doubles, netted 5 RBI's that turned out to be the difference in the 13-9 victory.

The X-Games must have been in town for Tuesday night's contest. Courtney introduced "freestyle" to the game of softball, humbling the mortal crowd in appreciation of her mystical feats. A mind-blowing "Oklahoma Tornado" of a swing produced a one handed single into right field while the "Zen Bat" caught more than hit the ball for a stylish swinging bunt down the first base line. Basketball had its first dunk, football its first forward pass. They were moments that rocked the world. Softball now has its elevation to creative canvas thanks to our Player of the Week.

I'm not sure how the All-Star selection missed David DeBond, but if he had been playing for the National League on Tuesday night, they would have had their first win in 13 year! David was scorching long balls over the defense's head all night long with 6 RBI's, including 2 doubles and a three-run shot to center field. Congratulations on Player of the Week, David, I'm sure your team, the Marinators greatly appreciated it!

A toughly fought battle was waged between the lines Tuesday night at Interbay, as the Marinators and Robert Half struggled for supremacy all night long. But the Marinators had nothing to fear with Alex Sankey patrolling the outfield making spectacular catches look routine. As Robert Half looked to close the score gap in the game to 3, Sankey promptly responded with a rocket over the right field fence, effectively sealing the game for the Marinators, with that solo shot turning into the game winner. Cheer Alex, and good luck in the rest of the playoffs!

The whole team deserves to be player of the game this week. Each member of the team contributed to the success of Go Team Berr!
