Summer Midcore Kickball at U-Dist Playfield T/Th

Alisa Cotter was an inspiration to everyone with her strong effort on Thursday night. Alisa's fundamentals were clearly a strong indicator of her dedication to coming prepared for kickball action.

Chris had an amazing catching game this week. He was in the right place at the right time. Catching 7 pop flies made it possible for his team to to maintain their lead and come out with a win!

Darren single handedly saved Kick and Jiggle's hopes of winning the game. In the top of the 8th he made an unassisted double play with one out and the bases loaded that ended the inning and gave Kick and Jiggle the opportunity to win the game in the bottom half of the inning.

It looked like it was over early between The Fuddnudler Brothers and Jacked and Tan. The Fuddnudlers jumped out big early on, at one point leading 7- 0. But midway through the game, Jacked and Tan began to put the pieces together. They had worked back to a 7-5 score by the end of the 5th inning. It was clear that the momentum was shifting in their favor, so much so that when the Fuddnudler's first kicker in the top of the sixth tacked on another run with a home run he made look easy, it barely phased Jacked and Tan. This was a team of destiny. Tied at 8-8 in the bottom of the 7th, Jacked had one last shot to pull off the improbable comeback... and delivered. The hero: Sean Higgins, whose beautiful slicing kick down the third base line scored the winning run and sealed the victory.

As the saying goes: "Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you." And sometimes you fall on your face at home plate. That was the story as Jenny Kincaid laid it all on the line, literally and figuratively, Tuesday night. Jenny was (perhaps ill advisedly) waived around from third to score on a double as the ball was relayed back in to the pitcher. He sized her up at about the halfway point, and let rip a perfect strike, nailing her right between the shins as she hustled her way home. As the ball tangled up in her feet, everything went slo-mo as Jenny executed what could only be called an "epic face plant" across home plate. Close, but no potato. Thankfully, she was alright, and she laughed as she got up. Her teammates cheered as they helped her up and wiped the gray dirt from her face. Hope you had a nice trip, Jenny. See ya next fall, hyuck!

Matt Otten turned in a dominating performance for Kick and Jiggle Tuesday night in the U District. Matt got the complete game shutout and it was no accident, as he was making a lot of the outs himself. At least 2 or 3 times he caught balls that were rocketed right back at him and looked like sure singles. Solid all around.

This was the game that almost got away from Kick and Jiggle. What looked like an easy third out to seal a victory turned into a drop that scored two runs and sent the game to extra innings, where the Jigglers barely held on. But let's go back a bit and look at why Kick and Jiggle had the lead to begin with. Sure there was good offense, but even better defense, with one clear standout player, Matt Otten, and one amazing play. Matt has graced this space before with his gold glove efforts on the pitcher's mound but he outdid even himself with what might have been the play of the season in the championship game- a diving catch of a short infield popup on his back, which he then instantly turned the double play on by throwing out the completely unawares baserunner off of first. Not only was the play itself fantastic, but it was a timely literal game-changer. Kicks are for Kids had just tied the game up, had the momentum and were looking to take their first lead, when Matt's play ended the inning, stole their thunder, and fired up his own team in the process going into the last inning where they were bale to retake the lead. Congratulations, Matt- it's your show.
