Spring Midcore Kickball in Everett Thursdays

In the final game of Thursday evening, playing under the bright lights of North Everett, it was Big Red Balls vs. Ballers. Kickball played at this high a level is normally marked by a major show of offense, but defense was the trademark in this game. Sure, Big Red Balls displayed plenty of offense in their 10-1 victory over Ballers, but it was the pitching clinic put on by Derek Brown of Big Red Balls that put this game out of reach! Derek had it all working . . . the fastball, the slider, the change-up and a pitch still being named . . . sure they all looked the same to the untrained eye, but the final score of this complete pitched game says it all. Congrats to Big Red Balls & Derek Brown, the Player of the Week!

In the third game of this windy & chilly evening it was the Challengers vs. Bed, Balls & Beyond. This was a hard fought battles by both sides with the lead see-sawing back and forth. The final victory (which was also their 1st victory this season) belonged to the Challengers! Not only was the team excited to get that first notch in the win column, but they voted their all-star player Bob Collette as their Player of the Game for his 3 magificent catches as well as getting the ball rolling by notching the first score! Congrats to Challengers and to Bob Collette - Player of the Week!!!

Shantel (Ballers) & Jamal (Big Red Balls) share this dubious honor. They were the heart and soul of their respective squads.
Jamal was an offensive juggernaut as he racked up 4 stand up doubles! Shantel, who earned the nickname "Flash" on this night, ran for two players as she pinch ran for her injured teammate. She got on base a couple times, and just barely came short of scoring. The fans in the stands were going wild as she baffled defenders with her 'Tom Foolery' and laughter.
Jamal just came short of the play of the year, as he competed in a foot race to home plate between him in right field and the Baller captain from 3rd base. Great time was had by all!

In a crazy month which has been officially renamed "June-uary", it was still perfect kickball weather in Everett this Thursday. In the first game of the evening it was Big Red Balls squaring off against Bed,Balls & Beyond. This is the playoffs and anything can happen! One thing that didn't happen though was the defense throwing out Angie Cartmill of Bed,Balls & Beyond! They got out to an early lead which they never relinquished thanks in large part to the 4-for-4 performance from the plate by Angie. She would time and again lay down a textbook bunt and no sooner would the catcher get to the ball & look to first base only to see a trail of dust and Angie already on base! Possibly even more impressive was her defense which caused the opposing offense to rename her area to the "don't kick to that girl" zone. Someone had a tally that she had 6 catches and no misses or drops! Congrats to Bed,Balls & Beyond for their 6-1 victory and to Angie Cartmill - The Player Of The Week!!!
