Spring Co-ed Softball at Greenlake Sundays

This weeks player of the week goes to Andy B. for his outstanding performance on the mounnd. Andy pounded the strike zone all game, and also made great plays from the mound. With a couple of hard shots fired back up the middle, Andy was able to get gloves on them and make outs. Andy had one heart-pounding catch on a linedrive hit directly at his noggen which he made the out. Andy was also a leader at the plate with numerous hits, bringing in the runs, great game Andy!

Talk about a picture perfect day at Greenlake...and what a day for some Underdog Softball! In the 3pm game it was the Indy team - Pitches Be Crazy squaring off against Here For The Beer. Pitches Be Crazy jumped out to a quick lead putting up four runs in the first inning & then another run in the second inning while Here For The Beer could only post a pair of goose-eggs, but the third inning is where things really switched around as Here For The Beer got a couple runs of their own while silencing the bats of Pitches Be Crazy. This trend continued for the duration of the game behind the offensive hitting showcase & highlight reel worthy defense of Here For The Beer's own Spencer Smith! Spencer smacked a home run that still hasn't landed yet and also had a stellar triple to help his team quickly erase the early lead held by Pitches Be Crazy. Not to let his bat do all the talking, Spencer also had 2 amazing web gem catches to rob his opponents of any chances to fight their way back into this game, holding them scoreless for the final 5 innings! Showing great speed from center field on both catches & flashing the leather on both occasions he was just barely able to get his glove under two nice hits, lay out to make the catch, tumble and still hold onto the ball which elicited hoots, hollars & applause from spectators & teammates alike. Congrats to Here For The Beer on their come from behind 13-5 win and to the Player Of The Week....Spencer Smith!!!

The first game of the day on field 1 also provided the most dramatic finish as Scared Hitless squared off against Fowlballs.This game was all tied up at four different points throughout the course of the match up, so these teams were very evenly matched on not only the offensive, but also the defensive side of the ball. At the end of the 7th inning the game was tied at 15 a piece! There was still some time, so an 8th inning was played....Fowlballs put up two runs in the top of the 8th, so if Scared Hitless wanted the win they were going to have to earn it! Sure enough Scared Hitless was up to the challenge & put up two runs of their own. So with two outs in the bottom of the 8th inning Lindsey York stepped to the plate & hit a shot right at the pitcher, but she hit the ball so hard that it '5 holed' the pitcher allowing her to make it to 2nd base on a double. Fowlballs couldn't believe it....then Matt Rouleau stepped to the plate. Matt had previously hit 2 homeruns & a triple, so he was swinging a dangerous bat. He promptly laced a shot into the outfield and Lindsey took off from 2nd base on a mission! She rounded 3rd as the throw was coming in from the outfield & made a textbook slide to get under the catcher's tag for a dramatic walk-off victory for Scared Hitless. Congrats to Scared Hitless on their dramatic 8th inning win, to Matt Rouleau on earning Player of the Week and honorable mention to Lindsey York for her gutsy baserunning!

Enough cannot be said about Mina and her ability to rally the troops and lead. Her softball skills are equally impressive and her performance inspired everyone around her. Great job Mina!!
