  Kickin' the Balls

Championship at Denny Park

Gray Seattle skies, thunderstorms looming and championship kickball--a perfect evening. The heavy air kept the ball in the park and defense reigned supreme as Mama had the first spectacular play of the day. The center fielder turned and ran hard and deep to catch up with a kick that surely looked to be an easy 3-run homerun but quickly turned into an inning ending double play. Another came in the 4th when the fielder for Mama climbed the hill to snare a twisting line drive. Then Coley stepped up with several amazing catches and shut-down D for Kickin' the Balls--including a run-saving, sliding catch on his knees. Move to the bottom of the 6th, still no score, Kickin' the Balls with a runner on 1st when Anthony steps up and drills one high and hard past the right fielder and into no-mans land for a 2-run homer and 2-run lead with 3 outs to go for the victory. Mama wouldn't quit, and after getting their first run of the game with some nice bunting and solid singles, they now had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs trailing by 1. The kick was a hard, twisting liner that bounced out of the arms of Aileen at 2nd base who then quickly recovered and just got the bean shot on the runner literally inches before reaching the bag, preventing the tying run and preserving a hard-fought championship victory for Kickin' the Balls.
