Using great team defense in the 2nd half and a steady hand by QB Martin Sukulski, The Old Guys beat Avenue A Classic to secure the Midcore 1 title at Jaunita.
Early in the first half, Sukulski connected with John Satello for the first touchdown. After a Satello interception, Sukulski hit Robby Lyon for a score to make it 13-0. Avenue A then seemed to get in a rythym and scored their first TD on a pass from Sam Richardson to Matt Hobbs. After a defensive stop, Ave A scored again on a Richardson TD run and converted the PAT to tie the score at 13. From that point on The Old Guys seemed to take over; prior to halftime Sukulski hit Satello for a TD making 19-13 at half.
In the 2nd half a stifling team defense by the Old Guys limited any offensive success for Ave A. Meanwhile, Sukulski threw touchdown passes to Tom Funk, Mike Collier and Satello. Avenue A was finally able to punch in a TD on the games final possession.
The Old Guys played a brutal regular season schedule and it may have helped them prepare for the playoffs, defeating the Regulators in the semi final. Avenue A seemed to find the key to their success in playoffs, beating the #1 seed Indy 1 in the semi's. A great playoff run for both teams, but a slightly better outcome for the Old Guys. Congratulations.
Marty Sokulski is this weeks POTW for leading the Old Guys to their first win of the season. Marty threw for 5 TD's and played some great defense, helping the Old Guys to a 38-18 victory over Just Go Deep. Great Job, Marty!
