Notes

First Place

Fall Midcore Kickball at Ballard Boys and Girls Club Sundays

Both semifinals saw close games and late inning excitement, but the #1 & 2 seed teams prevailed and met in the championship.
The plate had given players fits all day long, and both pitchers used it to their advantage.
The game was a defensive battle all game long. POG Brian Douma stiffled the Psst bunting game with his deft kicking from catcher. The ladies on both teams picked up their game on defense with some fantastic outfield catches and staunch infield play. Great spirit, good sportsmanship, some laughs, and a well played, close kickball game made this a championship to remember...

POTW: Brian Douma

The Fighting Owls

Impressing both teams, Brian put on an amazing display on defense at the catcher position.
Using his deft touch, Brian had multiple put-outs by kicking bunted balls to first with the accuracy of a sharpshooter.
He put the pressure back on his opponents as they struggled to get their small-ball game going.
Great game Brian! You have been nominated for the Hall of Fame at the Audubon School.

Sunday, September 14

POTW: Jacob Zacharda

The Fighting Owls

Okay, so maybe not everyone can be a winner in this town. Jacob stepped up to kick with a tie score late in the game, when he was given some bad news about our unfortunate Seahawks prospect of winning their home opener. Distracted and distraught, Jacob shanked off the first pitch out of play and put himself in a one hole strike. He would not make the same mistake twice, though, booting his next kick into the outfield, and turning a would be single into a homerun with some great base-running. Jacob's HR ignited his team to a few more runs, and that made the difference, as their opponents did not score again. Jacob, I hear the Hawks are having some trouble in their punting department...

Sunday, September 7

POTW: Brian Douma

The Fighting Owls

Brian showed some true grit with a gold glove effort on defense at third base. Twice he took tough infield knocks and gunned out the kicker at first from across the diamond.
On offense, he punished the ball at every at-kick.
Nice game Brian!
