There's just no substitute for experience. Members of Das Boot have been kicking around Underdog Kickball Leagues since before time was time. Their stats are midrange, their power kickers are few and far between. But their time in the trenches has taught them a few things- including how to catch a fly ball, how to field a bunt, how to limit an extra base hit, and on the other end, how to turn a single into a triple. These simple fundamentals helped propel them to a championship birth.
On the other end, Turn Your Head and Cough, were the cinderella story, just finding their kickball legs this year. Strong leadership from captain Anne Cosens, coupled with masterful bunting, and the even stronger trash talk from the now legendary Tami earned them their spot in the big dance. And they were just happy to be there.
In the end, The Coughers were just overmatched by Das Boot. The excellent bunting that shredded the Cough crew's semifinal playoff opponent First Picks, was countered expertly by The Boot's Andrew Putnam at pitcher. Quick fielding and strong throws to first that just beat a runner registered more outs than any other play. With Turn Your Head And Cough's main strength nullified, it was a forgone conclusion.
Congratulations to Das Boot and everyone on another great season for UK. We'll see you in the fall!
