George "Miraculous Reception" Cook-Cantu

The E! True Volleyball Story

George "Miraculous Reception" Cook-Cantu showed up tonight with his mind set to play volleyball. Little did he know that midway through the evening he would snag one of the greatest receptions....yes, receptions (that's a catch, my friends)...in volleyball history. In the heat of a hotly contested match - one of George's teammates made a well intended dig. But! The dig went sailing about 30 feet in the air and 10 feet behind the back court. George charged after this ball - determined to keep it alive - refusing to let his team down. He chased the ball down with his platform held high. With both teams looking on intently the miraculous reception occurred. It was with a sudden "Thwack!" that the ball lodged itself solidly into an inescapable Bermuda Triangle of George's arms and torso - that sent both teams into hysterics. George attempted to send the ball free from his grasp, but it was stuck like Excalibur in that fabled stone. The only king declared today, it seems, would be George - king of the volleyball catch - an illegal move to be sure, but by far the most stunning action committed on a volleyball court in some time!
