In one of the most competitive leagues Underdog has put out for beach volleyball, Will Work For Sets had a tough task to become the 2012 Late Summer Volley Ball Champ! With an overall record of 4-2 in the regular season, this team knew they must come together to pull through in the playoffs. They did just that, as Will Work For Sets swept away Sand In Our Pants to reach the championship game against a high powered We're BBST... And We Like To Party team that previously beat them in the regular season.
Nick Wichert, captain of Will Work For Sets, must have remembered the loss in the regular season because he came out swinging with vengeance. Set after set, Nick soared through the air and would pound a devastating spike through the opponents defense.
As both teams split the first two sets, a composed Will Work For Sets team gathered up a final push to bring home the championship. Inspired by Ellie Ostrand's toughness playing through an injury, Will Work For Sets gathered enough momentum to put away We're BBST... And We Like To Party away, winning the match 2-1. Congratulations Will Work For Sets! All your hard work paid off!
Nick Wichert led his team to a 2-1 victory over great We're BBST... and We Like To Party team. Nick has been a great captain for his team all season long and brought that same leadership to the championship game. Nick was force at the net as he dominated on offense and was equally good on the defensive side blocking. When the games were getting tight, Will Work For Sets continually turned to Nick to dig them out of a hole. Even the opposing team knew the ball was going to Nick, but that did not stop him from avoiding the outreached arms and sending the ball through the defense. Great job Nick, and congratulations on the win!
Ellie and her team were in a epic battle against Monkey Lovers which showed to be the game of the week for sure. Both teams had excellent spikers and net play. But one player stood out to be the X-Factor of the game and that was Ellie. Her digs were incredible, creating second opportunities for her team as she would dive to the sand to dig a spike from the Monkey Lovers. Not only were her digs fantastic but her dedication was undeniable. After a miss serve, she would get down and complete 5 push-ups as a punishment for herself because she expects nothing but the best from herself. With her awesome bumps and sets and even great swings, Ellie showed to be a major factor in taking the Monkey Lovers down to the wire. Great Job!
