Notes

First Place

Spring Rookie Kickball Downtown Mon/Wed

It was a great afternoon for kickball. The clouds broke up and the sun blazed just in time for the first pitch. In the first game of the playoffs, we had The Larry Bernandez Sisters and Cost-Per_Kick. Two very equal teams. The Larry Bernandez Sisters kicked first and made every oppurtunity count. With 2 outs they went on to scored 4 runs after. They never lost the lead since. Cost-Per_Kick pitcher, Hailey Dumas, had a great game with her great defense and unorthodox base running... You have to be there.. It wasn't enough to hold off Amanda Kautzer and her offense juggernaut skillz. In our second game, we had #1 seed Cement Heads and Team Redfin. This was a defense game throughout. Ian (Ham and Eggs) Hamm was the star defense player for the Cement Heads. Redfin kept testing him and he came up big play after play. It wasn't until late in the game that The Cement Heads put it away with some timed kicking and great base running.... That put us in a Championship game with The Larry Bernandez Sisters and top see Cement Head. Coming off a great win just prior, Cement Heads played defense first. The Larry Bernandez Sisters had other plans. They scored 5 runs in the first inning and that's all they needed. Pitcher, Felix Hernandez....... Oh sorry, not Felix. Jim Copacino pitched like Felix in this Championship game. He would not be denied, pitching a complete game shut out. Thats right SHUT OUT!!! With great jumping catches by Nathan Ranschenberg and the rest of the team making big play after big play, the top seed just didn't have the answers this night. Congratulations Larry Bernandez Sisters on a great game and having fun while you were doing it.

POTW: Jim Copacino

The Larry Bernandez Sisters

With a great attitude and making both teams laugh all night. Jim pitched the game of the night. It wasn't always pretty... He even had a pitch that didn't even get to the plate.. I know, hard to believe we are giving Player Of The Week to a pitcher that can't pitch the ball to the plate but Jim poised himself and pitched a complete game shut out. Playing great defense, making play after play and not to mention his many timely kicks in both games. This was a no brainer to give the player of the week to Felix Hernandez, dang there I go again, I mean Jim Copacino. Thanks for the laughs and keeping it fun....

Wednesday, May 4

POTW: Steve Cunetta

The Larry Bernandez Sisters

Unfazed by the youth that surrounded him, Steve used his wisdom and experience to blow away the competition with sneaky strikes and well placed boots.

Monday, April 18

POTW: Peter Orr

The Larry Bernandez Sisters

Peter started off with some rocky kicking and nervous field play, but like any kickball professional he shook off the butterflies and got it together.
Thinking he had the game winning kick, but being called off for out in front of the plate, few thought he could muster the guile to come through in the clutch after such a defeating call.
Peter rose to the occasion in the seventh inning, and kicked the game winning sacrifice, and the rejoicing continued throughout the evening. Great job Peter!
