St Johns and Ice Cold Pitchers put on a defensive battle on Thursday before St John's hitting put on a display in the final two innings.
St Johns came in looking for revenge on their earlier season 8-4 loss to Ice Cold Pitchers. It looked like more of the same early on though as ICP jumped out to 0-1 and 1-3 leads early in the game. ICP was able to hold onto slim leads into the sixth inning behind some great defense. Both teams were flashing the leather, leading to a low scoring first five innings of the game.
In the top of the sixth, St Johns bats took off as they put up 5 runs and grabbed a 12-8 lead. They took that momentum out to the field and held ICP to only one run on a solo home run.
In the top of the seventh, they gave themselves plenty of insurance runs, frustrating ICP by spraying the ball all over the field for numerous doubles, triples and home runs. They'd put up seven more runs for an insurmountable 10 run lead.
You always hear about command on the mound and holding teams scoreless as a pitcher. You never really get a chance to see someone who can master pitching in a slow pitch game because it's very hard to do. Well, Matt Kim pitched a complete game shut out against Legion Of Boom and again this is very hard to do in slow pitch softball. Mixing up his pitches inside, outside, up high and down low confused Legion Of Boom Batters all game long. They just could not get anything going against him. He also helped his own cause by going 3 for 4 at the plate with a triple and two doubles. He also drove in 4 runs and scored 3 times himself. Awesome game Matt!!
Ali had a great day at the plate and helped lead St Johns to a thrilling 28-24 victory. Ali went 3-5 with 6 RBIs and 2 2Bs. Great game Ali!
