Kickball FAQ

Beer, beer, beer, booze, beer, kickball, beer, drinking, beer, beer-beer??
No. No. No.  No.  No. Drinking in public parks makes bad things happen for everyone involved. Surely you’re not that much of a bum that you can’t wait 55 minutes to get to the sponsor bar?

How do co-ed/gender rules play into a USL Kickball game?
You can not have more than 2 males or females kick in a row in the kicking line-up. Also you can never have more than 6 males or females on the field at once.

What defines a bunt?

We don’t like directional kicks. The issue with a man-bunt is not how far or short the kick goes, but your follow through.  Stopping your kick short of a full motion is always going to lead to trouble.

Infield Fly Rule?

No, but if you get too fancy we will call you for intentional drops if you try and turn two.

Who keeps score?

The home plate umpire keeps the game score on a nifty scoreboard.

What’s a tag up? Force out?

Ask the ump.

What’s encroachment for kickball?

Basically any defensive player (including the pitcher and catcher) moving towards the ball before the ball touches the kickers foot can be called for encroachment?

Are their rules for Pitchers?

Keep the pitches low and slow – no one came to see you pitch.

Is there actually a strike zone?

Yup – Ball needs to come in at the right speed below the knees and catch a part of homeplate. When in doubt, kick away….

Can I kick more than 10 people in my line-up?

Yup, but you must have enough ladies, and everyone there must kick.

Do I need to stay after to ump the next game when our game is done?

Nope

Can I do it anyway?

No

Do I have to wear any kind of gear?

You need to wear shoes and dress appropriately. No open toe shoes or metal toe boots.  And sorry, no bare feet.

So should I get cleats?

You can but you also might get scoffed at.

So this is a beer league right? I run to second base and drink out of a keg and stuff?

What part of no do you not understand?

It’s Raining and I have a game today – What should I do?

Your best move is to always check the website at the correct time. The weather status will be highlighted in block red and show you if games have been canceled. In some cases some leagues are rained out and others can be played based on the characteristics of individual fields.

Ok, I'm signing up. What if I need to change my roster?
Roster changes are allowed up until the 3rd week of any USL season. Softball rosters should never be larger than 15 people. After the third week you can only modify your roster by applying for a special exemption due to injury or other weird/unfortunate occurrence. During registration, you will set up a log-in to your team admin panel that lets you update your roster, as well as do other cool stuff like emailing your teammates, tracking who owes you money, and signing up for future seasons.

Cool, I'm signed up. What about practices?
Some teams practice several times a week. Some don't practice at all. Unfortunately, USL does not provide practice time during the regular season on our fields. You are welcome to show up early and practice/warm-up on the side, or practice on your own.
