Notes

First Place

Spring Co-ed Softball Magnolia/Queen Anne Sundays [SPR 05]

Playing on a strange field, with new ground rules and a freeway to aim at, the Master Batters bettered 3 straight opponents to rise up from the 5th Midcore seed to proving they were the best team. The Master Batters handled the Swingers in the 1st game on the back of a 5 run 3rd inning where they gained the lead and never relinquished it. In game #2, they face the daunting task of playing the number one seed and defending fall champs The Usual Suspects. With the Suspects clawing their way back into the game, the Batters responded with a 4 run 4th inning which included one home run that cleared the freeway barrier and bounced across I-5. On the other side of the bracket, the 6th seed One Hit Wonders also faced the task of being the lower seed and having to beat large odds. They started the 1st game hot with a 10 run 1st inning and never looked back in their game against 3rd seeded Here for the Beer. Game #2 was a much more hotly contested game against Bottom of the Fifth. After holding the lead through 4 innings, the Wonders gave up a 4 run 5th to Bottom of the Fifth giving up that lead. The Wonders would come back to tie the game in the top of the 7th innning, and after Bottom of the Fifth was unable to muster any offense in the bottom of the inning, the game went into extra frames. After a scoreless 8th was highlighted by great defense by Wonder Jessie Gil, the Wonders picked up 2 runs in the 9th to seal the victory. So the championship game was then a 5th seed playing a sixth seed (true "Underdog's" if you will). The Wonders just had nothing left in this their 3rd game of the day. They could only muster 2 runs against the masterful pitching of Josh Hartnett. Josh also led his team by stepping up and adding 2 HR's in the game. One of those HR's was hit in the huge 7 run 3rd inning which put the game away early.
