Notes

First Place

Late Summer Co-ed Kickball at Lower Woodlands Thursdays

For much of the night, Bad News Beers seemed like a team of destiny. An 8-seed coming into the playoffs, they squeaked out a wildcard win by one run, eeked out another walkoff win by another single run, and then coasted through their semifinal matchup on adrenaline. Could anyone stop this run?

Well, yeah. It takes two able teams to tango in a championship and Fresh Kicks–who were a little *fresher* due to their early bye status–came ready to play and provided Bad News Beers with their toughest competition yet. The Kicks jumped out to an early but small lead. The Beers manufactured one run, then another of their own. Then Fresh Kicks broke it open and pushed their lead 8-2. Could Bad News Beers summon more magic?
You bet yer Budweiser. An epic bottom half brought them back up to 8-7.

And yet... even the rollercoaster comes to a slow end.
The poised and collected Fresh Kicks poured it on again in the later innings amidst kicks to the gaps and Bad News Beers fielding errors. They built an insurmountable lead that assured the outcome but saluted their underdog yet equal challenger.

Congrats to Fresh Kicks, your Champs!
