Fall Co-ed Softball at Lower Woodlands Wednesdays

It took a while, but Da Bad News Bears unleashed a hit barrage in the 6th and 7th innings that led to 15 runs and the Lower Woodlands Wednesday night championship over the Empty Pitchers.
The championship game started out like you might think, Da Bears holding a slim lead of 6-2 through 3 innings. The Empty Pitchers scored 3 runs in their half of the 4th inning to close the gap to 6-5. Jihan Anderson, Luke Deryckx providing key hits in the inning. But starting in the top of the 6th Da Bears started their onslaught. Lisa McNaughton, Mary Murphy, Jason Kono and Jason Freeman, among others laced the ball to all fields. And when it was all said and done, Da Bears had extended a slim 8-5 lead into a potential blowout at 17-5.
The Empty Pitchers went quitely in their half of the 6th, and once again Da Bears crushed the ball in the 7th. They tacked on 6 more runs to take a 23-5 lead. The Empty Pitchers tried to mount a rally with 2 outs in the last inning, but the deficit was way too much to overcome. The final score, 23-12.
Despite the score, there were numerous outstanding defensive plays on both sides. McNaughton played a sterling 2nd base and the steady play of Mary Murphy in left field kept the Empty Pitchers at bay. Jason Kono also filled in nicely at 3rd after an injury to the regular 3rd baseman.
In the semifinal games, the Empty Pitchers advanced by unleashing their own hitting clinic to beat Kates Pub 27-11. The game featured 2 home runs by Luke Deryckx and some timely hitting by Hope Esbin.
Da Bad News Bears beat Buntin is a Habit 29-11, foreshadowing the championship game.
Congratulations to Da Bad News Bears. You guys are good, really good!

POTW: Jason Freeman

Da Bad News Bears

In what turned out to be an incredible game, Jason Freeman's outstanding defense in the field was key in Da Bad News Bears securing a hard fought win over My Salsa in the first round of the play offs. On two occasions Jason made spectacular "home run robbing" plays going up and bringing back to sure home runs that would have surely made the game closer or maybe even given My Salsa the lead late in the game. Truly amazing! At the plate he was an absolute terror going 5 for 5 with 3 bombs while racking up 7 runs batted in and 5 runs individual runs scored. Hats off to Jason this week for an outstanding performance and for leading Da Bears to the next round of the play offs.
