Notes

First Place

Summer Softcore Kickball Downtown Tues/Thurs

Kicky McKickface jumped out early with a 2-run double in the 1st and a spectacular running then diving catch in center field to keep the Dream Crushers at 1 run through the 2nd inning. Kicky continued to add runs with the girls coming through with back to back kicks in the 3rd and an eventual 4-run lead entering the 7th--then the action really picked up.

The Crushers came alive with a 7-run 7th including a huge Grand Slam by Doug that was followed up with a 2-run double from Jerry. Mckickface came back to tie in the bottom with a crucial 2 out RKI and so onto extra innings we went. In the 9th, still tied, when the ladies for Dream Crushers stepped it up with a critical single by Beth and then a great slide at 3rd for Ashley, who just beat the throw. They went on to take a 3-run lead but McKickface came back again in the bottom half. If not for a running error leading to a game-ending double play for the Dream Crushers we might still be out there playing. Thanks to both teams for providing an incredible and exciting finish to a fun season of kickball.

Thursday, August 11

Sam Van Pelt

Dream Crushers

Sam had a solid performance on both sides of the ball in what ended up being a 10 inning championship game. He kicked a huge run scoring triple in the 3rd and had another RKI in the 7-run 7th to help send the game to extra innings. In the 10th and final inning, he advanced the runners with a nice twisting line drive to right field that ended up being the difference in a very close game. His defense was spot on as well, with several key catches in center field, including a running catch with bases loaded to end a late rally by McKickface and bring the trophy home for Dream Crushers.

Tuesday, August 9

Jeremy Liu

Dream Crushers

Jeremy had some fantastic catches in the outfield to help his bring his team not only 1, but 2 victories this week. To top it off he had a fabulous diving catch that helped prevent the other team from scoring during a key play.

Sam Van Pelt

Dream Crushers

Sam Van Pelt gets out player of the week for his otherworldly performance at the plate. Sam could not be stopped at the plate, hitting for the cycle and then added another triple for good measure in the seventh inning. Congrats Sam!

Jeremy Liu

Dream Crushers

With his team, Dream Crushers, trailing 6 to 3 and needing a 5th inning pick-me-up, Jeremy came through big time. It was a smooth pitch with just the right amount of speed and he timed it perfectly, launching the ball high and deep to right center finally landing on the concrete several feet past the path just before the picnic table for a 3-run HR. He followed that with a couple nice catches in the slippery outfield and a run scored for a complete game effort. The final score may have been tilted the wrong way at the end but it sure was an exciting game. Thanks for keeping it fun!
