Rich & Jay's Love Children Take Two for Championship
Blowout Victory in the Nightcap Over #1 Seed

It is never easy to play the split doubleheader -- playing one game and then off for an hour and a half before coming back to play the second game. The anxiety of championship Sunday only adds to that difficulty. That was the task facing Rich & Jay's Love Children, having to win two games to be crowned champs.

So much for a difficult scenario. Having earned a spot in the finals with a one-run victory, they played just about as perfectly as a team can against the #1 seed Elks in the finale. Using a barrage of base hits to rack up 23 runs, they also employed a rover system in the outfield that the Elks could not figure out, only managing 5 runs. It was a smartly played game and a championship for the Children.

The Empty Pitchers Take the Crown
Game of the Year Caps Off a Perfect Season

On a sunny afternoon at the Lower Woodlands playfield, the top two seeds of the midcore bracket faced off in what turned out to be a game for the ages. Both teams came ready to play and it showed. Each pitcher gave up only a scattering of hits, but it was the Empty Pitchers who were able to get on the board first, going up 1-0. They would add 2 more and take a 3-0 lead into the 7th inning, where the fireworks happened.

With 2 on and nobody out, Canlis blasted a 3-run HR to tie the game. Not panicking, the Pitchers would get out of the inning without any further damage. In the bottom of the 7th with a 3-3 tie, Aaron P came up with one out and blasted his own HR over left center, capping off a great game and giving the Empty Pitchers the championship.
