Summer Softcore Kickball in Eastlake Mondays/Wednesdays

While manning the shortstop position, Derek Woodworth of Doctors Without Borders reminded everybody of another notable shortstop named Derek. As he made play after play on the afternoon, his teammates jokingly shouted "captain!" at Derek. And he lived up to the title, showing tremendous range and kickball awareness as he helped his team cruise to a victory on the afternoon. For inducing shouts of "Jeter!" from the crowd, Derek is our player of the week. Congratulations!

Paul made one of the most insane catches that I've every seen at Underdog. Ball is kicked to right field, he is playing right center. He is backing up his right fielder when the ball bounces off her chest over her shoulder. Ball looked like it was going to be just out of Paul's reach. But he pulls off the incredible and sticks out his foot to tip it up to himself. I had to take a double take to make sure I saw that right. It was a spectacular play that earned him player of the week.

Marshelle had a great day at the field. She had a couple perfectly placed singles that no one could do anything with. Once the defense started to expect an expertly placed bunt she mixed it up on them and blasted a ball to the left center gap and ended up with a home run. On defense she had a solid game and even played through a jammed finger early in the game and didn't seem to miss a beat defensively.

Mike "The Guillotine" Frantz had one of the most incredible throws I've ever seen at Underdog. After the ball was booted into the outfield. It almost seemed that the speedy runner was going to be able to score a home run. But once the ball was relayed into "The Guillotine", there was hope. He managed to gun out the runner by throwing the ball the entire length of the infield, from the grass to home plate, and hit the runner's foot right before he stepped on it. It was absolutely insane and both teams went nuts over what they just saw. Truly spectacular!

Game-ending triple play. No more description to validate Katie as our POTW, but the situation her team was in makes it even more impressive. Up 1, Mama was on defense. Bases were loaded, no outs. In a moment of pure clutchness, Katie catches a hard line drive, and catches two other runners off base. For saving the game, Katie is our POTW. Congratulations!

Jack had a great game today. Anytime somebody was on base and Jack was up he ended up driving them in. Jack had 5 RBI and was the difference on the field. He made a couple very solid plays in the field too and really put the team on his back all day.

Cody had a game clinching grand slam in the bottom of the 5th. His great hitting and defense les his team to a win right before playoffs.

In what was easily the most intense and competitive kickball game of the season, how could we not grant player of the week to the Walk-Off hitter. It took 9 full innings, but Andrew finally broke the tie with a long, high kick that landed just in between two fielders. Way to come in clutch, Andrew!

Lex gets Player of the Week because she is also the Coach of the Year. With her superb play and coaching, she helped the Base Gods to win a regular season championship and a Red Rubber Showdown championship as well. Her ability to analyze any situation and come up with the perfect answer is a rare sight at Underdog. And not only is she amazing on the field, she is an even more amazing person off. Taking pictures, tracking stats, and creating a great kickball environment that everyone on her team can enjoy. She is an awesome person and I want to congratulate her on an awesome year.
