Summer Co-ed Softball at Maplewood Thursdays

Lisa persevered through a tough preexisting injury to play very well. She had a couple hits, and played a very capable catcher. You could hardly tell she wasn't able to play as much as we wanted to. She was able to keep her team in good spirits through jokes and was a big part in her team's tight victory.

Jonathan K. is our player of the week for his outstanding pitching on Thursday night. After going 6 strong innings, Jonathan came back out for the 7th to get the final 3 outs and seal the deal for his club. His team, Responsible Kidz, had been leading all night, but after a 5-run 5th inning by their opponent, they were nursing a 3-run lead heading into the final frame. Jonathan kept his cool and fired a shutout 7th to preserve the 15-12 victory and earn POW honors.

Alex B. did it all for her team, Off in the Woods, on Thursday night, flashing her glove on the diamond and swinging a mighty bat at the dish. For the night, Alex went 2-4 with a couple of runs scored and some heads up base running that caught the defense napping. On defense Alex made a couple nice plays including a throw to first while falling off balance to get an important out late in the game. The play was so nice that the opposing team congratulated her on her SportsCenter highlight.

Team McKinstry kept rolling in their semi-finals matchup on Thursday, taking down their opponent 25-12 in a fun-filled 7-innings. McKinstry's starting catcher, Karim D., was slotted 10th in the order, but he must have been the team's secret weapon for such a dangerous hitter to be so low in the lineup. With the game close in the early going, Karim kept his team in the lead with a couple of opposite field home runs that drove in 5 runs. His catching skills were on full display as well, framing pitches and maintaining good communication with his pitcher and infield defense throughout the game.
