Supercalifornia Pants Defend Showdown Championship! Supercalifornia Pants continued their tournament dominance by winning back to back showdown championships. Their defense showed all day long, in only allowing 2 runs in the opening round, and only 5 overall. They started the day picking off Kick em in the Balls by a score of 4-0. Then came a game against See You at Recess. As they were familiar foes, each team was able to keep the others' tricks in check and keep the score low at 2-1.
Supercali would then take on their old nemeses, BIG TAB in their last opening round game. Supercali had something to prove as BIG TAB was the only team to hang a loss on Supercali in tournament play in the last 2 years. The Pants took that into account, beating them 4-1.
The two teams would meet again in the final match of the night. Apparently BIG TAB shook off some of their rust as they kept this one very close. The 1-0 game had several close and tense moments as the game wore on. Each bounce of the ball could have turned the game either way. In the end though, Supercali was the fresher team and pulled it out.
Second Place: B.I.G. T.A.B.
Team Fiesta Puts Das Boot Down for a Siesta Team Fiesta wins the Gunslinger Division after taking care of business against the other teams in the Tumbleweed Division. Team Fiesta ran through the Tumbleweed Division with relative ease, allowing only 6 runs in group play. This included an impressive shut out of the Supa Fupa's. In running through the group, they held all 3 teams they played to their lowest run totals of the day.
Das Boot started the day out early at 10AM. They handed the Slow Rollers their only group loss on the day, and also turned in spectacular defensive efforts against the A-Team and Kickin It Old School. Holding them to a combined 1 run, and shutting out Kickin It Old School.
Once the playoffs started, it was back to business for both teams. Das Boot started out with a grudge match against old Ballard nemeses the Boozin Bavarian Blue Ballers. Even though the Ballers pounded out 7 runs, it wasn't enough to match the offensive explosion for Das Boot as they put up double digits. Menace 2 Sobriety was next and put up a fight for a couple of innings before fatigue set in and a 5-1 win for Das Boot was decided.
On the other side of the bracket, Fiesta brought back the defense to post their 2nd shutout of the day against the Summer School Dropouts. A rematch against the game Beef and Cheese team was next. Even though Beef and Cheese upped their defensive effort, and showed they wanted the game but sacrificing their bodies for their 2 runs, Team Fiesta showed their earlier win was no fluke and pulled it out 3-2.
The championship game was between 2 unbeatens. Das Boot and Team Fiesta both came into the championship 5-0. It would turn out that Team Fiesta's defense was just too much for the Boot. This resulted in a 5-1 win for Team Fiesta and their 1st tournament championship.
With the ease that Team Fiesta blew through the division, maybe it's time for them to move up to Hardcore?
Second Place: Das Boot
Fuddnudler Ma and Pa Have to Be Proud of Their Sons The Brothers Fuddnudler endured a long day of kickball, playing 6 games over 12 hours to win the Colt 45 Championship. They started out by squeaking out a close 9-8 victory against the Ball Bustin Ballers in the first game of the day at 10AM. The would then go on to clear out their division by beating both Panda + Rice = Love and Red Balls and Vodka handily. By winning their division, they automatically moved into the playoff bracket of 8.
Later in the day, their opponents in the championship game didn't have it quite as easy. Indy #1 was a team of unknowns who hadn't even met each other until 1pm. They would beat Cobra Kai in the opener before winning a back and forth game against the mechanical ROBOT HOUSE!?! 3-2. Needing a win to assure their spot in the playoffs, they couldn't quite push past We've Got the Runs to get the automatic birth. That means that they had to sweat out a wild card spot, which they got on a tiebreaker.
Once in the playoffs, the Brothers picked up an easy round 1 win over Beta Epsilon Rho before barely besting Make My Red Balls Blue in one of the best games of the day.
Indy would go on to show they belonged by beating the Tombstone Champ Sons of Pitches in the first round. Next up? A rematch with We've Got the Runs. This time, Indy turned the tables on the Runs, picking up a 12-11 win in a tight and exciting game.
In the end though, Fuddnudler ended up too tough for Indy, after jumping out to an early 7-1 lead, the Brothers kept the pressure on to win 13-6.
