2004
Red Rubber Bowl Recap
Back in the day, when you were playing kickball on the playground
and dodgeball in gym class, could you imagine playing those
games in an NFL Stadium? Well, that's what happend - on Dec.
10th, Qwest Field became the biggest, most ridiculous playground
on earth, as over 60 teams took to the pro's turf from some
kid's games. It was the 2004 Red Rubber Bowl, a kickball and
dodgeball tournament for everyday players 21+. Kickballers
participated in a 2 game guaranteed tourney with the top 4
teams moving onto a final showdown, while Dodgeballers had
4 guaranteed games and a shot at the playoffs.
It was a wet Friday night, but it was also unseasonably warm.
Players were in short sleeves, soaked, and smiling from 5
pm until 11. When the red rubber playground balls stopped
flying, three teams were left standing as champs of the inaugural
Red Rubber Bowl. In the dodgeball tourney, The All American
Hoodlums were on top of the Coed field, while Balls Models
of Portland were kings of Qwest Field in the Open Division.
And The Dopplewangers of Seattle put a final piece of hardware
in the trophy case for the year, taking the kickball champs
game over a spirited Kung Fu Shoe team. All in all, it was
a great night for grown ups playing kids games.
See... playground daydreams can come true.
